Part 1 of 4: Hygiene before the date

Wash before the date. Either take a shower or have a luxurious bath. Use soap or body wash to cleanse and restore a light, fresh fragrance.
    • Use a soap or body wash that has the same fragrance as your perfume or cologne or aftershave. This may not always be possible, so keep the soap or wash fragrance fairly basic.
    • Clean is the smell you're aiming for after the wash.

After bathing, put on a fairly neutral deodorizing product. You don't want its odor competing with the odor of your scent, unless you're not bothering to add scent (see below). It's recommended that you use a deodorant and anti-perspirant combination for the greatest effectiveness in quelling the bacterial odors.
      • If you are prone to sweating a lot, speak to your doctor about specialized products that can help reduce the odor and even the sweating for you. Nerves will only make things worse for you.

Part 2 of 4: Adding scent

    1. Smell Seductive on Dates Step 3.jpg
      1
Select delightful scents. There are many possible fragrances to choose from when it comes to perfumes, colognes and aftershave. Not all of them will work with your body's chemicals and some of them should never have been labeled a fragrance.
      • Use spicy and warm scents for the winter, citrus and light florals for the summer and spring. Remember, go oil-based in the winter and water-based in summer.

Take care when choosing your signature scent:
      • Ask an expert. Visit a store selling scented products and ask for advice on what to choose for yourself. Start by outlining what you're looking for, such as fresh, soft, strong without being overpowering, spicy, summery, etc.
      • Don't wear scent when shopping for it. You'll need a blank canvas, so to speak. Also, shop in the morning, when your sense of smell has been least confronted by a day of odors!
      • Limit the trial to three scents at a time. Set aside some time each day during a week to keep returning to the store, checking and then finalizing your preferences.
      • See if it's possible to get a tester before buying. That way, you can try it for a few days and see if it really does represent you.
      • Be daring and let your partner decide––wear whatever he or she says turns him or her on!

Add the scent after washing. There are some good ways and bad ways to apply perfume or cologne:
      • Aim for subtle application over dipping yourself into it. The best way to get this is to spray the scent in front of you and then walk through the mist.
      • Consider applying your fragrance directly to your damp body. This helps the pores to capture the scent and release it as your body heat increases.
      • Layering your fragrance will help it last longer.
      • Do not apply perfume to the sides of your neck. During the day, sunlight can burn these areas and change the pigmentation where the scent has been added; moreover, since the neck is an erotic zone, it's not very pleasant to be tasting perfume when kissing it. At night, a small dab to the nape of the neck (an erogenous zone) is all that's required.
      • Add dabs of perfume to target zones: behind your ears, at the back of your knees and on your wrists. Each of these areas will be a little warmer than other parts of your body, helping to release more fragrance. For women only dab a little perfume between your breasts.
      • Be very careful about spraying or misting clothing; you can ruin your clothes doing this and you can also create a stale or overwhelming scent very fast if it reacts badly with the fibers or lingers too long. Spraying your panties or underwear is not recommended; the strong chemicals in perfumes are not something you want near your delicate genital region.
      • Don't rub your wrists after applying scent; doing this crushes the delicate scent and can spoil it when it reacts to you body's natural scent.
      • Never overdo perfume, cologne or aftershave. It is soon unbearable and can cause other people to feel unwell. Build-up on clothing is also a big turn-off, so be careful to keep your clothing fresh.

Part 3 of 4: Smelling natural

    1. Smell Seductive on Dates Step 6.jpg
      1
Smell natural. Another option that you may want to consider is applying no fragrance at all. To many people, perfumes and colognes are a turn-off, especially when over-used. To some people, artificially made scents can even produce an allergic reaction. The sexiest scent is that of a clean body; your body produces natural hormones of attraction that you should not cover up with perfume. If you bathe not too long before dancing and use a scent-free deodorant, you will smell fine for the rest of the evening. Natural is sexy too.
      • If you're nervous about a perfume or don't know what your date might like or not like, you can wear perfume in a "scent locket" around your neck which releases the scent as your body heat warms it. It will not only last longer, but you can take it off if the date doesn't like it! Solid perfumes work best for this method.

Part 4 of 4: Staying sweet smelling

Wear clothing that allows your body to breathe. Clothing that clings really tightly or that is made from fabrics that don't breathe will soon turn you into an odor magnet. Wear natural fibers and clothing that is guaranteed to keep you dry, by wicking away moisture and drying quickly.

Make sure your breath is just as fresh as you are. Clean your teeth, floss and rinse with mouthwash. Chew breath mints, parsley or have peppermint tea before heading out. If you have a fresh mouth, it will smell great, and will add to the sense of cleanliness and desirability.
    • Until you know each other better, it's recommended that you take care with what you eat in the hours leading up to and during the date. If you're on a date or have a date coming up within 24 hours, avoid foods which produce bad breath and/or body odor such as garlic, onions, milk, and chocolate. So that your breath stays fresh for that first goodnight kiss, avoid ordering these foods while on your date. One exception might be when your date orders the same.
    • Drink plenty of water throughout your date to keep your mouth rinsed.
    • Don't smoke. Quit now before your date guesses that you smell like an ashtray. If you do smoke, avoid smoking during the date. Then quit.

Avoid doing sweaty things unless you have a chance to spruce up. For example, stay out of the hot weather while waiting, don't run to make a bus or anything and keep your nerves under control if you sweat when nervous. During the date, don't do a date requiring heavy physical activity such as running or dancing unless you are able to change, have a shower or reapply deodorant. If it's hot, stay close to fans or air-conditioning.
