Steps
1
First, try to gently pry out your arm from underneath your partner.
If your arm is underneath your partner’s neck or waist, you may be able
to gently remove your arm and free yourself without waking your love,
by pushing your trapped arm down into the mattress and sliding it away
from him or her. If you're in just the right position (such as the neck
or waist area), you should be successful.-
2Deploy the “spoon and roll” technique if you cannot easily free your arm. If your arm is truly trapped, use the spoon and roll method, which will make your honey think you are simply giving him or her an extra hug (when in reality you're rescuing your nerve-stinging arm):
- Pull your partner closer to you. Your partner will be closer to your body than arm itself.
- Gently roll your partner away from you, going in the direction in which he or she is facing. This will help you to remove your hand without waking him/her up.
- While you are rolling, slide your arm out from underneath your love and slide it underneath your body.
-
3Use the “shoulder snuggle” method. If the traditional spoon position doesn’t work for you, snuggle your sweetheart by having your partner lie in his or her side. Lay down beside your partner in the classic spoon position. Slide your top arm over his or her body and your lower arm behind you. This method also allows you to easily change positions throughout the night without waking the other person.
-
4Try the “outstretched arm” technique. Your partner will need to be on board to make this snuggling technique work, but it can be win-win for everyone involved. Before getting in bed, set the pillows up approximately one foot lower than the headboard. Your feet shouldn’t hang off the bed but the extra space above your head will serve as a “landing pad” for your arm. Get into the cuddling position except instead of placing your lower arm underneath your partner; slide it under your pillow so it is outstretched––somewhat resembling a flying position. Lay your top arm gently over your honey.
-
5Consider the “chest pillow” approach. Another way to save your arm from blood supply deprivation is to have your partner lay his or her head on your chest. This method typically works well for those who have broad pecs or an ample bosom:
- Both you and your partner should lie down on your backs in bed.
- Ask your partner to slide toward you and lay his or her head on your chest.
- With the arm underneath your partner, embrace him or her so that your partner’s body is positioned above your armpit area.
