Know Thy Body: Know your measurements before you shop. Not only will it cut down the time you spend trying on clothes, it will help you choose outfits that fit your body perfectly. Among the most important body parts to measure are your bust, chest, hips and waist. Source:iVillage.com

Don't Go Too Tight Or Too Loose: Dressing for your size doesn't just mean nixing clothes that are too tight from your wardrobe. It also means you shouldn't wear clothes that are too baggy. Both will make you look frumpy.

Make Sure You Can Walk In Them: There are some occasions we'd sacrifice comfort for fashion. After all, four inch heels guarantee that legs-for-miles look. But if it looks better than it actually feels on your foot, you probably won't wear it. Don't waste your money (or endure the pain). Source:The Fashion Spot

Peek-A-Boo Isn't Cute: Button down blouses are intended to do one thing and one thing alone — stay buttoned down. It looks sloppy if we can see what lies beneath your shirt.

Be A Lone Wolf: Shop solo. You'll be able to concentrate more on hunting down exactly what you're looking for. You'll save a lot of time while you're at it too. Source:In Style

Remove Lint: A lint roller is a must-have (cat lovers, you know what we're talking about). Give your outfit a few quick swipes before heading out the door (don't forget your back and behind your legs) to catch any unwanted hair and dust on your clothing.

The Power Of Peplum: Worried about your waist or hips? Try peplum for an instant slimming effect. It flatters every figure and does wonders at hiding unsightly bulge.

Try On Three Sizes, Not One: Shoe sizes vary among designers and brands. Start by trying on your usual shoe size, then try on one pair that's a half-size smaller and a second pair that's a half-size larger. When in doubt, buy the shoes that are a half-size larger. Source:The Fashion Spot

Know Your Colours: Know which colours will flatter you the most by figuring out if the undertones in your skin are either warm or cold. The experts at The Fashion Spot say women with cool undertones look best in white, black, gray, silver, and shades of blue. Women with warm undertones will be dazzling in shades of yellow, gold, brown, green and red. Source: The Fashion Spot

Organize Your Closet: Organize your closet. This way you'll be able to see what you own (and actually wear it). Separate your clothes by garment. Figure out what what can be folded neatly and what needs to be hanged. Make sure you get the right hangers for shirts, skirts and pants. Use storage shelves to store your purses and intimates and buy a shoe rack. For more detailed instructions on how to tackle this task, check out what our friends at Lucky Magazine have to say. Source: Lucky Magazine

Double-Sided Tape Is A Dream Come True: Keep plunging necklines in place and prevent any fashion mishaps with this godsend. We double-swear by double-sided tape.

Invest In A Quality Iron: A quality iron is an absolute must to ensure you don't damage your clothes. Get one with a range of settings that can conquer even the toughest wrinkles, but gentle enough to iron over delicate fabrics. Because there are so many irons out there, the folks at Real Simple have made it easier for you to decide on one that will meet your needs. Check out their list of the top 40 irons they tried.

Get Chic With An Ultra Cute Umbrella: Rain or shine, we are always trendy. Get yourself a colourful, knock-out umbrella that makes you stick out.

Work Out Stylishly: Come on, let's be serious, the gym can be an intimidating place with so many buff, sweaty bods. We'd be lying if we didn't say we never wore mascara before lacing up. But hitting the gym shouldn't make you fret. It should make you feel good. Getting some trendy workout clothes that fit your body will make you feel more confident and encourage you to break a sweat.

Organize Your Jewelry: Store all your jewelry in a jewelry box. You're less likely to lose them when they have a home. Not only will they be easier to find in one handy location, you'll remember what you already own so you don't buy pieces you don't need. Your jewelry will also last much longer when it's protected.

Alter Your Clothes: It's important when you're investing in articles of clothing that become staples, like blazers and pants, that you have them tailored. It will ensure your money is well-spent, will make the piece that much more special and will make you feel great every time you wear it. After all, it only fits you.

Help Boots Stand Tall With Wine: Wine bottles have another use — place them inside your boots to make them stand upright. Source: Real Simple

Know Your Neckline: Making note of what works for you and what doesn't is key and neckline plays a huge roll in this. The neckline is the part that shows off your pretty face, so be sure to get it right.

Know Your Arch: Shoe shopping? Make sure you know your arch type. In an interview with the folks at The Fashion Spot, Erica Lynn Stanley, design director of ...me Too shoes, said the best way to determine your arch is to step on a piece of paper after wetting the bottom of your foot. You can determine whether you have a normal, flat or high arch by examining your wet footprint. If the middle part of your footprint doesn't show up, you have a high arch, but if you can see most of your footprint then you have a fairly flat arch. Your arch is normal if you see half of your wet footprint. Source:The Fashion Spot

Donate Clothes You'll Never Wear: Stop hoarding. If you haven't worn it recently, then you probably never will. To help decide if you should toss it or not, the experts at Apartment Therapy suggest you answer the following questions: Do you like cut, fabric and colour? Are you comfortable wearing it? Does it fit you now (no, not if you lose 3 inches off your waist in the next month)? Can any damages like stains or holes be fixed? Do you have more than one place to wear it? Can it be combined with other articles of clothing in your closet? When was the last time you wore it (if it's been over a year, nix it)? Source: Apartment Therapy

Learn To Pack Lightly: Packing lightly is an art. Unless you're walking a runway in Milan, you won't need more than just a few key ensembles. The folks over at Apartment Therapy stick to this rule-of-thumb: If you're going away for one week, pack three bottoms and 3 shirts per bottom. For two weeks pack five bottoms. For every dress you pack, you can lose a shirt and a bottom.

Nix The Change Purse: Change purses can be useful, but if yours rarely sees daylight, either because you don't put change in it, or worse, never take change out of it (this is just dead weight), then it's time to say goodbye.

Body Shapers: Thank goodness body shaping has evolved from Victorian waspies to Spanx (after all, we want you to be able to breathe). Body shapers are ideal for hiding excess bulge (who likes the sight of love handles or muffin tops?) and allows clothes to glide on smoothly.

LImit Accessories: We love accessories, but we have to draw the line somewhere. If you're throwing yourself an arm party, then it might be better to steer clear of too many rings. If you're wearing large earrings that scream for attention, then you might want to forgo an equally radiant necklace — they will only work against each other.

Purse Essentials: A purse isn't just a fashion statement. It's main purpose is functional. You carry it around wherever you go so it needs to contain some essentials: your wallet, a pen, pain killers, hand sanitizer, tissues, make-up essentials (we personally won't leave the house without lip stick and/or lip balm), hand cream, gum or breath mints, tampons or maxi pads (no one wants to be caught off guard during that time of the month), and for those of you who spend lengthy bouts talking, texting or gaming, bring your phone charger along.

When In Doubt, Overdress: There's nothing worse than showing up an event underdressed. Maybe the invite didn't specify or involved the word casual — but everyone else dressed up not so casually. If you don't know what the dress code is, overdress. There's no harm in looking too pulled together, but you'll feel uncomfortable if you think you look out of place.

Wear Nice Underwear: Wearing nice underwear every day will make you feel special. Sure, not everyone gets to be so lucky and see how nice your underwear is, but you'll know. Also, be sure to get your bras fitted — often. It will make your clothes hang better and be infinitely more comfortable.

Sharpen Your Sewing Skills: Have a mini sewing kit at home or in your purse. This way you can salvage your favourite blouse or pair of pants by patching up minor tears with some simple needle and thread action.

Get Some Stay-Up Thigh-Highs: Sometimes pantyhose creates an unsightly bulge around our mid-section (ladies, you know what we're talking about). To eliminate this altogether, why not use substitute pantyhose with stay-up thigh-highs? They'll do exactly what pantyhose does, minus the bulge.

Use Nail Polish To Stop A Tear In Its Tracks: Pantyhose is notorious for ripping. We've been victim to this fashion mishap one too many times. Until someone invents pantyhose that won't tear at the slightest tug, we've got a temporary fix. Just dab clear nail polish on both ends of the rip and it should keep it from getting larger.

Work Clothes Need Not Be Frumpy: Just because you have to dress office casual doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style. Find well-tailored pieces and incorporate accessories and colour to create a more exciting look.

Take Care Of Your Undergarments: To extend the longevity of your bra and ensure a perfect fit each time, you'll need to take care of them properly. The experts at La Vie En Rose recommend you wash your bras by hand to ensure they lasts as long as possible. If you opt for machine washing, unhook your bra to prevent it from twisting and turning. You may also want to use a wash bag which will separate and protect your bras from the rest of your clothes. Make sure you select a delicate or permanent press cycle, and whatever you do, do not use detergent. It's way too harsh and will damage the cup, lace and elasticity of your bra. You might want to try using Forever New Fabric Wash. Air dry your bras by hanging them. Source: La Vie En Rose

If You Feel Uncomfortable, You Probably Look Uncomfortable: Your confidence is affected by what you're wearing, as sad of a thought as that might be. So if you're feeling self-conscious about your outfit, you're likely to be tugging at it or double-checking that everything is in place all day and night.

Invest In A Good Wallet: It may spend most of its time in your purse but your wallet is just as important as your purse. Need we remind you of #ThatAwkwardMoment when you've pulled out a lifeless, ragged wallet from your designer purse? There's nothing more embarrassing. Invest in a quality wallet, one that reflects your signature style.

Don't Overdo Belts: The belt is meant to give you a waist or hold your pants up. There are times however, the belt should be left at home. If an outfit is already fitted, there is no need for a belt. If you are wearing pants but feeling like belting the shirt, it looks a little odd. Use belts sparingly rather than often.

Pretty PJs: You've spent all day looking lovely, so why not go to bed looking pretty too? Falling asleep is all about comfort so rest assured, pretty pajamas don't mean uncomfortable ones. Lose the oversized shirt or baggy sweats for lightweight pajama bottoms and top. Who knows? You might sleep easier.

Less Really Is More: Indecent exposure isn't classy. Celebrity stylist Jen Rade, who has dressed many beauties including Angelina Jolie, told In Style that only one body part should be exposed at a time. If you're baring your decolletage, don't also show off your legs. Remember ladies, a little bit of mystery is alluring. Some things are better left to the imagination. Source: In Style

Add Shine To Your Step: If you're out of shoe polish, the staff at Woman's Day suggest rubbing a bit of lotion on your shoes. It works well on the tips of pointed shoes and increases the longevity of leather by keeping it supple. Source: Woman's Day

Watches Are Timeless: Sometimes the thought of throwing on an arm party first thing in the morning can be intimidating, which is why watches are awesome. They are classic and can represent your personality. And if you invest in a good one, it could last you a lifetime.

Make Lists: If you love shopping, then make lists your best friend. They will make your life easier. Not only will they keep your focus on the items you actually need, they'll cut down the amount of time you spend shopping and prevent you from making impulse purchases (we hope).

Ready-To-Wear Ensembles: Have ready-to-wear ensembles hanging in your closet (yes, even the shoes and if you're really keen, the accessories too). They will come in handy when you either have absolutely nothing to wear or when you're in a rush to pull an outfit together. It's better to have a few for different occasions -- one corporate, one casual and one glamourous look. You can thank us for this tip later.

How To Wear Denim On Denim: The style experts at Refinery 29 say that doubling up on denim can work if you wear dark slim-fitting pants and a lighter slim-fitting top. You might want to break up the jean look by adding a cute belt. Source: Refinery 29

Stock Up On Basics: Known your essentials and stock up. These include white and black blouses, a little black dress, high heels, red lipstick, diamond studs, blue jeans and anything else that has a central role in your style. Remember, these looks are timeless so investing in certain items that are more expensive but higher in quality may be wiser because they will last longer.

Try Everything On: Make sure you always try clothes on when you shop. Yes, we get lazy doing this over and over again but it's a necessary evil. Sizes change depending on fabric, designer and store. You might also want to bring along your own accessories and shoes (or use some at the store) to get a better sense of how the complete outfit will look. You'll also save yourself the hassle of returning or exchanging an outfit that doesn't look right if you try it on before buying it.

Don't Pretend It Fits: We've all been there, standing in the dressing room and convincing ourselves that the button will magically stay closed when we get home (and then, of course, it doesn't). These are the times where we have to accept that our bodies have changed in one way or another, and buy clothes that fit. Because you know what happens to the clothes that don't fit (cue garbage bags being dropped off at Goodwill here).

Go Green: Green is this year's hottest hue according to Pantone so go wild. If you're not a fan of it (or colour in general), try incorporating it into your outfits in small doses with a green purse or some green accessories like a scarf or bracelet.

Go Nude When You Wear White: White is a tricky colour to wear, so if you're wearing white pants, don't wear black or white underwear because it will still be visible through your pants. Instead, buy nude underwear. It's more discreet. Source: Oprah Style

Depill A Sweater With Sandpaper: Gently rub sandpaper on your beloved sweaters to get rid of any unsightly pills. Our friends over at Apartment Therapy have tried it and they swear it works. Source: Apartment Therapy

Take Care Of Leather: Real leather is expensive, so it makes sense to take care of it. But often this is one thing we overlook. Soon our favourite boots are destroyed and have salt stains from the dreaded winter. It only takes a few extra minutes to get our prized leather goods ready for bad weather so it's something to start doing...now.

Dress Your Age: Janice Dickinson doesn't look 57, but she is. We're not going to lie, she looks great, but let's face it, it's a tad tacky when 50-somethings try sporting an outfit you'd normally find on 20-somethings — and vice versa. However, tinsel town allows celebrities more leeway than the real world does for us ordinary folk. As a rule of thumb, stick to age appropriate attire.

Big breasts are commonly seen as super sexy by men and most women feel really lucky to have them and they are for sure envied by the others.
Those who do not have them don’t have a problem in having them done by their plastic surgeon just to add more sensual curves to their body, especially the Hollywood stars, who are big fans of this practice.
It seems like busty women have it all, but actually, even though sensual curves look stunning on them, they are really hard to dress!
Most women and girls that I know despise their full breasts, not because they think it is unattractive, but because they never know what to wear that will make them look sexy and not vulgar, voluptuous and not fat.
It is a challenge indeed, especially when it comes to choosing the necklines, as if you go for a high one it will make it look like you have a sausage on your chest and make the breasts look much lower, whereas if it is too low it can very easily look vulgar.
Plus, there is the problem that some women are ashamed of their cleavage, as they think it is too big and they risk to attract the wrong attention from men, so they tend to hide it and in doing that they make it look even bigger and the whole figure looks heavier.
Wearing the right clothes for your breast will in fact make you loose pounds faster than a speedy diet and enhance it in all the right ways, without exaggerating.
So, here are the top tips for dressing if you are heavy-chested!

Support those girls

A great outfit starts from an even greater foundation, and that is true especially if you are a busty woman. A rightly fitted and supportive bra can make all the difference in making you look thinner and gorgeous in anything you will wear.
It comes with no surprise that most women actually wear the wrong size bra, even if they have a small cleavage, but especially if they have a big one this fact becomes quite obvious. If you have never done it, I think it is now time to go and get professionally measured and then invest in a great bra that you can use and reuse under anything.
A balconette style bra is the best option as it both lifts the breasts and it gives them a sexy shape. You should always make sure that the back straps are wide and tight, so they will not cut into the soft flesh of your under-arms and back and give enough support to lift the chest.
The shoulder straps too have to be regulated correctly. In order to see if the bra you are trying on is the right one for you, check also that the part that lies between the breasts fits perfectly and is not lifted up.
You should always have different bras to wear with different necklines, so make sure to buy a few models. When it comes to strapless bras then, pay particular attention to them and get one that is really structures and supportive and even if you try to jump up and down or run it will not fall.
The best ones in my opinion, when it comes to strapless bras for busty women, are those ones designed by Wonderbra!

The neckline DOs and DON’Ts

Choosing the right neckline is probably the most important thing for a busty woman as it can really make the difference and flatter your figure like anything else. Here are some things you should look for and some that you should avoid.
DO go for square, scoop and sweetheart necklines that are absolutely great for showing off your cleavage in the right way.
DON’T go for high necklines. This is a big no-no as they will make your breast look much bigger and also lower. Plus they will also give you a uni-boob effect that you want to avoid at all costs. So no both to rounded and turtlenecks.
DO choose v-neck tops and dresses that are great for separating the breasts and also elongate the body. But be careful not to exaggerate as the risk of looking vulgar is always there.
DO go for asymmetric necklines, like one shoulder dresses, as they are very sensual but not excessive.

The right dresses for you

Wrap dresses are your best friends! They are very flattering because they separate the breasts and enhance them, but they also underline the waist making the whole body look slimmer. Empire waist dresses are also great for this same reason.
Try o avoid sleeveless dresses though as they draw the attention to the bust and the upper arms. Three-quarter sleeves are more flattering.

Tops and blouses

Say no to oversize and yes to body-hugging tops. Go for simple styles and avoid elaborate ruffles and frills that will only add bulk.
Corset tops will be perfect to accentuate the bust in a non-vulgar way. Also tops that are tight on the waist and loose on the chest are great as they will give the illusion of a smaller bust.
No to spaghetti straps that will exaggerate the appearance of the bust but choose instead thicker straps that are more supportive.
As for shirts and blouses, make sure that the buttons at the chest don’t pull and don’t seem like they are going to explode at any moment.

How to accessorize

Your necklaces should never hit at the bustline (the height of the nipples) and also not lower as they will just hang at mid-air. Either choose really long necklaces, at the height of your belly, or chockers.
The best solution for busty women anyhow are earrings, as there is no risk that they will interfere with the neckline. Plus, they also draw the attention away from the bust.
When it comes to handbag, choose medium to large sized ones for more balance and avoid small ones that will simply exaggerate the appearance of the bust.
Loosely drapes scarves are also a great tool for elegantly covering up the chest!

We're all guilty of owning that one lone make-up item we've had since before the creation of the world which just sits in our make-up bag. For some, it's not even just one item, its several items.
While some make-up artistes argue that there's no such thing as a useless make-up product, the fact remains that they're products which have a shelf life, after which said item could begin to pose a threat to health.
So how long should we keep our make-up products, or in this case specifically - lip wear before it becomes a potential harbinger of cancer?
We did a little research and here's what we found out.
  • For lipstick: The average consensus for lipstick was 2 years, although some were of the opinion that it could last up to 4 years. However, if it becomes sticky and dry, changes colour or smells funny then it's time to toss that lipstick. To preserve and increase the shelf life of lip stick, it can be stored in a refrigerator.
  • For lip gloss: This has a slightly shorter life span than lipsticks. The average time was one year and like lip sticks if it begins to smell funny or become overly sticky, then its time to say goodbye.
  • For lip liner: Like lip glosses, lip liners have an average shelf life of one year.

1. Make friends with your scale.
If you want to lose weight, think of your scale as a friend, not a foe. Weigh yourself once a day, first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom and getting undressed (water weight and clothing can throw off the number). Track your results, and stay motivated by following the weight graph's changes over the next few weeks. (Here are five ways you can use your scale to your advantage.)
2. Post goals in spots you'll see.
Keep yours top of mind by writing them down and posting in several places where you'll notice them often—on your computer monitor, on the fridge, in your wallet. Then tell someone about it. Research conducted by the Dominican University of California showed that people who wrote down their goals, shared them with a friend, and then followed up with weekly updates were, on average, 33 percent more successful than those who didn't write down their goals or share them with others.
3. Write down every bite, nibble, and swallow.
According to recent studies, participants who keep a daily food journal lose twice as much weight as those who don't. Keep track today by recording the food and portion size. Don't forget to write down beverage calories, too. While tracking every day leads to more weight loss success, do what feels right to you. If tracking for two days a week is more realistic, then commit to completing that goal and staying mindful of what you eat the other days.
4. Eat breakfast every single day.
Eating breakfast is like giving your metabolism a little jolt, causing it to rise faster and burn calories at an optimal rate. It can also help you keep weight off in the long term. According to data from the National Weight Control Registry on people who have maintained a weight loss of around 30 pounds for at least a year, 78 percent of the people reported eating breakfast every day. What you eat for breakfast is key, says Angela Ginn, R.D., a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She suggests you choose foods with a lower glycemic index to keep blood sugar low and energy high, such as barley, which is high in fiber and has a nutty, wholesome flavor. "Get hulled barley and make it the same way you would oatmeal, and add healthy toppings," says Ginn. Try this breakfast barley recipe.
5. Think outside the apple.
Change up the old standby fruits and veggies you've been rotating in your daily menu. Try Clementines, figs, or Asian pears—whatever's in season and isn't more of the same old apples, bananas, and baby carrots.
6. Plan healthy snacks like you do meals.
Prepare for afternoon hunger with nutritious snacks you bring from home, says Jim White, R.D., a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Writing down what snacks you'll eat and when you'll have them will keep you from grazing, so you'll be less likely to overeat, he says. Aim to have your snack three to four hours after lunch to keep energy revved. Check out these 14 snacks that power up weight loss for ideas.
7. Ramp up water intake.
People who drink about 7 cups of water a day eat nearly 200 fewer calories than those who get less than a glass a day, reports a study from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Hunger and thirst are easy to confuse, says Marjorie Nolan, RD, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: "The last thing you want when you're trying to lose weight is to think you're hungry when you're actually thirsty." In order to get those seven cups in, drink one cup with each meal and snack, have a cup before and after your workout, and make time for a cup of decaf tea in the afternoon or evening. (Add excitement to your water with these sassy water recipes.)
8. Take dinnertime down a notch.
Slow it down—you'll feel fuller faster, plus research shows that the more you chew, the more nutrients your body absorbs. Sip water often, put your fork down between bites, and chew a few more times than you normally do so you'll be less likely to overeat. Nolan suggests her patients practice these tips to slow down during meals and become more aware of their hunger signals:
  • Concentrate on the taste, texture, and temperature of every bite.
  • Always set the table.
  • Take a deep breath before each bite.
  • Experiment with using chopsticks.
9. Shake up your menu.
Keep your day-to-day meals fresh by making a new, healthy recipe today. It could be as simple as a five-minute flat belly meal or one of our seasonal slow-cooker recipes.
10. Eat your last meal later.
Contrary to popular belief, eating late at night won't make you gain weight. Adjusting your dinner hour to a later time actually saves calories by curbing the urge to nosh in front of the TV. "Having dinner a little bit later—but at least two hours before sleeping—helps prevent mindless snacking, which often happens in the evening," says Nolan.
11. Stop distracted eating.
Don't eat in front of the TV, when you're on the computer, or while reading—all situations that encourage mindless noshing. Instead, sit down at the table when you eat. If you have to eat lunch at your desk, turn away from the computer and take a few minutes to enjoy your meal—no work distractions allowed. If you're used to snacking in front of the TV, take that time to paint your nails, straighten up the living room during commercials, or use a teeth-whitening strip.

12. Find a low-calorie go-to dessert.
You know you're going to crave sweets, so get prepared with a healthier version. Keep dark chocolate squares in individual packets for a quick, chocolate fix at work, and store low-fat frozen treats in the freezer at home (keep them under 150 calories each).
13. Look for ways to fidget.
Mayo Clinic researchers discovered that people who tap their feet, fidget, and move around more burn 350 extra calories a day—that's enough to burn off a slice of pizza! If you're not a natural-born fidgeter, try a quickie workout—even 10 minutes dancing around your kitchen after dinner. "Get up once an hour for five minutes," suggests Nancy Snyderman, M.D., chief medical editor for NBC News and author of Diet Myths That Keep Us Fat. Increase your calorie burn throughout the workday with these seven tips.
14. Commit to eight hours of sleep.
Tiredness could be the reason your cravings are out of control. Research shows that lack of sleep raises levels of ghrelin, a hunger-boosting hormone. In one study, appetite—particularly for sweet and salty foods—increased by 23 percent in people who lacked sleep. Get back in control by going to bed earlier for the recommended seven to nine hours a night. If you have trouble settling down, try this nighttime yoga routine to relax and fall asleep faster.
15. Get rid of "fat clothes."
Are you using too-large clothing as a crutch in case you gain more weight? Yeah, stop that. Go through your closets and drawers, and get rid of anything that's too big for you right now that you haven't worn in a while. Donate the clothes to a local Dress for Success organization, or try selling them online.
16. Switch up your cocktail.
The next time you're out with friends, choose a type of wine or bottle of beer that isn't your usual standby, suggests White. Take your time sipping it slowly and savoring the flavors; you'll be more likely to make it last longer and drink less instead of gulping down one after another. If cocktails are your thing, try a vodka and club soda combo with a splash of juice, or order a glass of bubbly—both drinks are under 150 calories.
17. Wear a form-fitting outfit on Fridays.
"Friday is the day most people fall off their diet," says Ginn. "I tell clients to wear something form-fitting on Friday or when they go out to eat. This will curb the urge to overindulge and help you stay motivated while losing weight."

style rules to break

When you were growing up, your mother, grandmother, or even your friends may have given you advice about certain things you should NEVER wear – like stripes and plaids, white after Labor Day, or white stockings and black heels. But is it still a RULE? Or is it just a RUMOR?
MUST READ: GET THE LOOK: Solange Rocks A Bright Fuchsia Suit & Now We Want One
Your skin tone, your body shape or weight, and your own personal image standards determine many things in fashion. What a model would wear on the runway may not necessarily be what a high school teacher, or lawyer would wear. More often than not when we rely on the media to rule our wardrobe, we run the risk of becoming a Fashion Victim.
I found 10 rules the fashion experts say our closets should live by – which ones do you think should still apply and which are just rumors?
  1. Never wear horizontal stripes or large prints
  2. Never mix patterns or prints.
  3. Full figured women should never wear animal prints.
  4. Never wear white shoes or linen after Labor Day.
  5. Never wear stockings darker than your shoes.
  6. Your shoes should match your purse and your belt.
  7. Heels with straps and open toed shoes should only be worn in the summer.
  8. Don’t wear a mini skirt if you’re over 30.
  9. Never wear a white bra with a black shirt.
  10. Never wear white stockings with black heels.
I still hate white shoes – period! I think they should only exist for faithful church goers and the ushers who greet you at the door. But a good pair of white distressed denim with a big beige wooly sweater screams fashion in my mind.

We all know there are certain things that simply can't be changed -- as much as you might want to. One great example: your height, which can sometimes feel like a serious impediment to your style-especially for the vertically-challenged, who often complain that a certain street style star's look would "only look good on someone tall."

Until science comes up with a way for petite folks to add a few extra inches, your best bet is to rely on a few clever fashion tips and tricks to fake those extra inches. Below are 14 ways to instantly look taller using nothing but what you've got in your closet.

Your appearance does a lot for the impression people have of you. Dressing appropriately at the office can do a lot for how your superiors, subordinates and clients view you. There are so many unspoken rules about office attire. It’s almost a minefield knowing how to keep on trend, while remaining conservative and professional. To make things easier for you, here is a breakdown of the latest spring/summer trends of 2013 which are office-appropriate.
Suits, the real deal

This season there are a number of options when it comes to choosing a fashionable suit, giving you a selection to choose from according to your own personal taste and professional setting. Hot on trend this season are the sports jackets, the brown suit and the denim dress shirt. For the most formal and more executive environments, both the three-piece suit and double breasted are in the season, giving a more sophisticated and gentlemanly appearance. When choosing the perfect suit for you, more important than anything is that it fits you well and that it flatters your body shape, so make sure you try on several suits before making a final decision.

The right shoes

Once you’ve chosen your suit, it is now time to find yourself a perfect pair of formal shoes to match. Oxford shoes are particularly fashionable this season and as they are available in many different colors, they are great for complementing suits of all styles and colors. Other hot trends include the monk strap shoe and the light brown leather shoe. With all office shoes, it is important that they are well maintained and immaculate, so make sure to look after them.

Improve with accessories

The right accessories can really complement and complete your office look. Stay away from any garish statement pieces of jewelry such as large rings and thick chains. Here, less is definitely more! Having a luxury watch on the other hand can go a long way for your image. A nice watch can exude class and sophistication. However, it is important at work to stick to tasteful but classy pieces, avoiding overstated flashy pieces. The last thing you want is a watch that screams “I’m overpaid!”  There are many options available when it comes to tasteful luxury pieces. For instance, luxury pilot watches are a common choice. The fine combination of art, craftsmanship and technology of watches on Chrono24 has turned high-end watches into one of the favorite accessories of the style-conscious professional man.

Ask the Guys: Do Men Care About Women's Shoes?

 culled from:stylelist.com
Our friends at Mandatory are here once again to answer your questions for the guys that you might be too shy to ask.

Question: A recent survey reveals men dislike wedges more than Uggs and Crocs what style of shoe do you dislike the most on women?

Answer: To be honest, out of everything a woman is wearing, the last item guys probably look at are her shoes. I know that the shoes a man wears is very important to women, but sometimes guys go entire days without even really looking down at your feet. On top of that, we can't really even keep track of what all the different styles of shoes are called. So if you ask us if you should wear your Mary Janes or your Kitten heels tonight, we'll really have no idea what any of that means and we'll probably just respond with "Yes."

It really comes down to what you think looks good on your feet and more importantly what you're most comfortable in. We covered this issue a bit when we were asked how we feel about women changing out of their high heels and into flats at the end of the night. Women tend to forgo being comfortable in order to wear a specific style of shoe, which we appreciate and understand, but overall we'd really prefer to not let a night out be ruined by constant reminders that blisters are forming with each step we take.

masterofyourstyle

So I understand that most of you want to become a master of your own fashion and style.

What does it mean to have your own style?

I love the HBO show Entourage. If you watch this show, you’ll see that all the characters wear certain clothing that pair excellently with their own unique personalities.

They convey a lot of personality through their apparel. In this picture, you can tell a lot about these guys just by looking at their appearance.

You want to gain competence for what style works best for you specifically, and to feel the confidence of knowing that you look good all the time.

It gives you one less thing to worry about and one more thing to feel good about.

You want to know exactly what fits your body type, what colors look good on you, how to look “money” and make women swoon when you pass.

You want to have others wonder why girls can’t stop talking about your magnetic charm.

That’s awesome, who wouldn’t want that? But the real question is how do you get to this level?
The quick-fix solution!

Most people forget that you will never learn anything overnight. It takes a LOT of time to really “get” something. This is a generation of fast, instant, and easy. Nobody wants to hear that something is going to take a long time, and be hard to get.

It’s all about how bad you want something. You have to know what you want, and why. Then plan, take the steps you need to in order to get it.

Forget the title of this article, who says you have to master it in the first place? All you need to do it take it to the level that you want for yourself.

But the most important is knowing what you want and why, because those who don’t know the answers to these questions will never get anything they really want from life.

I’ve found that you have to have a real purpose for you to stay motivated.

The marketing tactics that have saturated our society make people this way. How did you feel when I listed all the things you should want in the paragraphs above? Did you feel excited? Did it make you want those things for yourself?

It made me exciting just writing it.

Most people don’t get past this excitement, they get a high off of it — giving them a delusion of accomplishment just for having the thought — but never take action.

Everything has a learning curve, but if all you do is chase some sort of outcome because you think it’ll complete you, you’ll be sadly disappointed.

So everything you want something, stop and ask yourself WHY?

Do you genuinely want it? Need it? Will it benefit you in many ways?

Everything that has to do with your first impression are all skills that can be learned. It doesn’t matter what you look like, where you came from, how you were raised. You can learn all the skills to be able to present yourself to any level you want.

When it comes to gaining a skill, the key is to enjoy the process of learning.

But to enjoy the process you have to ask yourself WHY you want to learn whatever it is you are after in the first place.

Not to just chase the end-goal because it sounds nice and because you think you’ll be happier. You have to know why you would be.

Why do you read this blog?
Are you genuinely interested in cultivating your own unique sense of style?
Do you enjoy learning, and growing — the journey towards your best self?
Or are you just a dabbler in search of the next quick-fix-it solution to a makeover? Everyone else is doing it right?

When it comes to handling their image, most guys just want articles on Dos and Don’ts.

They want somebody to just give them a list of things they should wear and be guaranteed that it looks good and that it will make them attractive to women. They want to know exactly what item they should get, and how to get their hands on it.

They want the quick-fix.

I’m here to tell you there is no such thing and it just doesn’t work that way. Even if you get an image consultant you’re still going to have to take the steps towards implementing everything you’ve learned. You can’t just get consulted and then go back to your normal ways as if everything will just magically take care of itself!

Rarely do most guys take the time to search who they are, what kind of image they want to present, what style they find themselves identifying with the most, and what seems to work the best with their own unique personality and physical qualities.

There is no easy button. Man up. Face the challenges in life. That’s how we grow. It’s what makes getting there sweeter, and worth the effort.
5 Steps To Get Started Right

Here are 5 steps to start you on your journey to most effectively and attractively presenting that SEXY ALPHA MALE inside of you that is dying to get out.
1. Define a clear purpose

The only true motivation is desire.

Nothing can stand against your desire to do something if you have have a clear and very direct purpose for doing it. Most people have no idea why they do some of the things they do daily. They are just going through the motions because they believe they should or have to. This is because they never stopped to think why.

Make every part of your life deliberate.

Ask yourself the ultimate end-all question of “why” for everything you do. I find that answering this question opens up so many doors to new realizations and puts sniper-like precision in everything you do instead of a scatter-brain shotgun blast of hit or miss.

What is Jae’s purpose?

My purpose for pursuing this knowledge and helping other guys is because I know perception is reality.

Do you see a young lady or an old lady?

Let me explain the concept of this so that you are with me here.

Nobody knows who you are inside but yourself. It’s what you do, that defines you. It’s how you look, walk, talk, and act that present who you are to the world.

When you meet a person, nothing you see is absolute. You will never KNOW that person completely. All you can do is take the little information you have and make a whole lot of assumptions and judgments from the way they look, walk, talk, and act.

The difference between your LOOK and the other areas of talking, walking, and acting is that your LOOK is something that people INSTANTANEOUSLY process without even having to meet you face to face. All they have to do is look at you for ONE second.

Depending on the IMAGE one presents people choose to either take them seriously or not seriously at all — with no regard for whatever comes out of their mouth. There are million others ways people treat each other based on their look. I’m not just talking about the physical but your overall image that you present through the way you carry yourself and dress.

The reason being is because of social conditioning, stereotypes, and everything else that life experience has taught us about people who look a certain way.

It’s just the way things are, and you might think it’s sad but the good news is that you can use this to your advantage!

You could act super nice, or super cold, and no stranger who meets you will ever know which type of person you really are.

So this means if dress and carry yourself a certain way, it becomes the basis you give others to start forming opinions from. After people form a first impression of you, anything you do after this is filtered through their perception. Everything you do is measured against this to see if you are congruent to it or not.

Setting a good impression at the moment of sight is critical because sometimes it’s all you get, when a girl passes you by, or you don’t get to speak to her for more than a few seconds.

Sometimes girls ask people who I am and nd will try to get to know me just because of my appearance.

This is what you want in order to further increase your chances with women.

Check out this picture of Clay Aiken, and think about what impressions his image in this picture give you. What does his image convey about his personality?

I have nothing against Clay Aiken, he’s a great guy, but it’s obviously not one of his good days. When he actually pays attention to his appearance, he looks 10x better.

(Uhh, which version of him are women going respond better to?)

With every interaction you have with others you are shaping the idea that they have of you.

Now that you understand my reasons and understand the concept of perception is reality…

Take 5 minutes to ask yourself “why” YOU want to master your look.

Is it to be more attractive to women? Is it so that people will take you more seriously? Is it to help you get a better job? Maybe it’ll make you feel more confident…

Whatever it is, give yourself some solid reasons so that you really know why you want get this area of your life down.

2. Always Remember That Presentation Is Everything

Theory told me a great analogy once — imagine a jeweler who encases a gorgeous flawless diamond within dull metals to create a piece of jewelry. What happens to the diamond? Would you still think that diamond was gorgeous?

I bet you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference from that diamond and a cheap cubic zirconia. Nobody can tell the real value of it.

But if the jeweler places that diamond in an artfully and beautifully decorated piece of precious metals — in an amazing presentation– it becomes PRICELESS.

Think of yourself as this diamond. How are you going to present yourself?

You want the women to look at you and think “wow, he’s priceless“. We all know that diamonds are a girls best friend. What they don’t tell you is that it’s all about the presentation of the diamonds. You want to have all the advantages you can get in this game, so pay attention to your presentation.

Theory recalled watching a video of himself from years ago when he was on a trip in Asia, where in it he was wearing clothes that were way to big on him, and looked very bland. He now realizes that it conveyed all the wrong messages about him — that he wasn’t fashionable, probably not cool, didn’t have any girls in his life, he was messy and disorganized, bad in bed, and a whole lot of other negative things.

JUST by what he WORE alone people subconsciously made these sort of judgments about him.
3. Set Obtainable Goals

Set yourself goals that are challenging enough so that they won’t be taken lightly, but not too far out of your comfort zone to make you feel overwhelmed.

Take a few minutes right NOW, to figure out what kind of guy you want to present yourself as.

Write down a list of characteristics that come to mind when you think of the guy you want to be. How would you like others to view you?

Then write down some ideas of what this kind of guy would look like. How would he dress? What would his hair look like? How would he carry himself?

After you’ve figured out what kind of style you want for yourself, set benchmarks for yourself.

For example, once a week you could go out and try out the types of clothes that would convey this type of personality. Even if they are outside your comfort zone, see how it looks and feels. Try out other styles that don’t match your personality while you’re add it. Have some fun.

Make sure to bring a camera and take some pictures of you in the outfits so you can look at it again and show other people for feedback.

That’s simple enough right? To go out and try different clothes outside your comfort zone without buying anything.

Another benchmark can be setting aside a day to try all the different kinds of jeans to find what brand, model, size, and different style fits look best on you.

Or try making it a goal to find yourself one cool new accessory by the end of the month.

Do some research online and create clear goals and objectives towards what you want to gain the knowledge about.

Go with a friend for feedback, and have fun with it.
4. Take It Step By Step

The only way to really learn something is to compliment learning with experience. This is very important.

Don’t just read everything on this blog and expect yourself to be a fashion expert. You have to take the action steps, just like everything else. A lot of people want to learn certain skills but they all have excuses and few take action. Maybe you are part of the few that take charge of their lives.

Get out of the house and start implementing what you learn in small chunks. It’s easier to set small benchmarks than to just generally stare ahead at a goal.

Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to do EVERYTHING all at ONCE. Don’t go shopping with the objective of just “getting yourself a whole new wardrobe”.

You will get nowhere without clear objectives because you will spend too much money on things of which half of you’ll end up returning. The other half you will just not wear as much as you thought. You want to be confident about your purchases and know they look good. This is one of the biggest ways people waste money on clothes. They don’t really know if it looks good but just buy it anyway.

So take it piece by piece.

Devote a month to finding the accessories that best present your personality. Do research online, look at prices, try things on at different stores, make mental notes of what you see on other people that look nice, etc.

Devote the next month to mastering another field for yourself. For example master the knowledge of what colors look best on you. Go to the mall and try on as many different colors as you can and take pictures of yourself.

Post these up on the internet and ask for feedback in the forums, or scroll through them with your friends and ask them for feedback. Ask your family, girls, everyone. Make sure you write down what colors get the most opinions, or at least what kind of colors – bright, dark, warm tones, cool tones.

Then devote the next month to another area, and keep on doing this till you reach your level of satisfaction.

If you want an easy way to do this, just check out The Kinowear Bible.
5. Give Yourself No Way Out

Make it very difficult for yourself to get lazy or quit.

There was a point in my life where I had to quit my job and prevent myself from hiding under the feeling of “security” in order for me to get out of the rat race and off my ass — to be forced to pursue my dreams and succeed.

Sometimes emotions get the best of you, and emotions aren’t always in line with what you want. I knew that the only way I would truly be happy with where I am in life, was if I pursued running my own business.

You might want to go to the gym and get fit, but sometimes you don’t feel like going, this is a clear example of when your emotions aren’t in tune with what you really want. Along with emotional discipline, you must help it along by putting yourself in situations where it is hard to fail.

When Julius Caeser sailed over the channel from Gaul and landed with his legions on what is now England, he halted his soldiers on the chalk cliffs of Dover, and, looking down over the waves two hundred feet below, they saw red tongues of fire consume every ship in which they had crossed.

In the enemy’s country, with the last link with the Continent gone, the last means of retreating burned, there was but one thing left for them to do: to advance, to conquer. That is precisely what they did.

If you are really serious about changing your look, then throw away or donate some of the really old clothes that you have that you never want to wear again.

Get rid of all the stuff you already never wear anymore first. This clears up a lot of space in your closet for new clothes. Most people find it hard to part from things, but it’s just something you need to do.

Wipe out the old and bring in the new. Upgrade

Over the last year, I've interviewed women who've started some of the most successful ventures in the industry as part of Racked's Ladies Who Launch series. These are women like photographer Jamie Beck, who landed early support from Tumblr, and Kim France, this week's subject who won the admiration of the industry while working as Lucky's editor-in-chief for ten years before starting her own site. There's model-turned-beauty entrepreneur Josie Maran, who self-funded her cosmetics company after venture capitalists laughed at her idea; fashion law blogger Julie Zerbo, who relies on her legal education to call out some of the industry's biggest names; and so many others who are making their mark by starting something of their own.
The entrepreneurs featured in Ladies Who Launch may come from all different backgrounds and career paths, but they're also able to deliver tangible advice to hopefuls and vets alike. Below, see all the best tips from women who are seriously making it.

On Starting Your Own Business

"Your employees are not your family. That's a mistake. When you start out and think you're all in this together, well, you're not." —Kelly Cutrone, People's Revolution
"If you're not good at math and business, find somebody that is because you will not succeed without that skill set." —Yael Alfalo, Reformation
"A physical business should be a place that people come to and love. Make it about the people who come instead of just treating it like a business." —Tara Stiles, Strala Yoga
"Know the general knowledge of every single department in the business. You don't want to be stuck and not know what to do in tough situation." —Kimberly Gordon, Wildfox
"It's about learning from each mistake and saying, 'Okay, we messed that up,' or 'We shipped that late,' or 'We did this, but what are we learning from that and how are we using that to go forward? What are we building on?'" —Stacey Bendet, Alice + Olivia
"The whole smoke and mirrors culture of social media is a real disservice to us because we think that branding is more important than the actual product. But in order to run a business, you need to have cash and in order to have cash, you need a product. So always put product before branding." —Molly Guy, Stone Fox Bride
"Always ask what's possible. If you play the same game that everyone else is playing, you won't do anything that's inspiring and you'll live in fear. If you don't allow yourself to dream, you'll never get yourself anywhere unique and important." —Josie Maran, Josie Maran Cosmetics
"Not every opportunity is the right opportunity for you. It's good to know when and how to say no. Focus on your goals and know that there are going to be many opportunities." —Jodie Snyder, Dannijo
"Test as quickly as possible. See if the concept resonates with people. People have a lot of good ideas, but the execution is what is challenging." —Katia Beauchamp, Birchbox

"I think one of the most important things when you're starting a business is to not let the naysayers stand in your way. It would be a mistake to let other people's limitations keep you from accomplishing and doing the things you really want to do." —Mary Helen Bowers, Ballet Beautiful

On Taking on the Internet

"I would highly discourage people from starting a blog as a way to make money. It's so obvious when your voice is not real." —Kelly Cook, Bag Snob
"The hardest lesson for me was learning that I didn't have to do everything by myself. For years, I was a team of one, trying to learn the back-end coding. I spent time on stuff I had zero comprehension over, instead of just asking for help or hiring someone to do it. It's important to ask for help." —Emily Schuman, Cupcakes and Cashmere
"Don't just use Twitter to send links with your content, do it in a way that's personal. We tweet personal things, we talk to people. That's the fun part." —Heather Cocks, Go Fug Yourself
"Define your voice, but be open to evolving as you grow." —Abby Larson, Style Me Pretty
"Have a plan of profitability. Focusing on profit doesn't make you overly capitalist, it means you're investing in the future of your business." —Grace Bonney, Design Sponge
"Take a coding class, even if you're not planning on doing the developing. It's such a key thing I wish we had done that enables you to communicate more intelligently with the tech side of your product." —Carly Zakin, The Skimm

On Generally Killing It Professionally

"If you have a job and a paycheck, just sock away money, even if you don't think you want to launch a magazine some day. It's a lesson I learned later in life, and I wish someone had sat me down and physically took money away from me and put it in the bank. It would have made life easier today." —Kerry Diamond, Cherry Bombe
"Fostering relationships is so important. When you meet people, you shouldn't always think about what they can do for you. You should think about what you can get just from having a friendship with them and what you can learn from them." —Danielle Kosann, The New Potato
"Make sure you do your research. You don't want to be defending anything. My blog posts often aren't very long, but a lot of research goes into them because I don't want to be writing things that aren't true." —Julie Zerbo, blogger at the Fashion Law
"Know that every day you're not working, there is someone out there in there who is because they want that opportunity. When I think that I can't do it anymore, I know that there is someone out there my age that wants this as badly as I do." —Jamie Beck, Ann Street Studios
"Don't turn into an asshole. When you go to a publication where you suddenly have all the perks in the world, it's really easy to turn into a really unpleasant person. If you're going to go be a really big deal somewhere, just try to remain decent."
