Winter is one of the most damaging times for our hair. Chilly days outside and central heating indoors can dry your hair out until it loses shine, volume and feels limp and brittle. However, by looking after it in the right ways you can prevent that winter weakness.

Steps

1
Use good hair care products.
  • Use a protecting and repairing shampoo and conditioner
  • Before blow drying your hair smooth a little bit of heat protection cream through your hair. You can also buy ones which prevent frizz or add shine such as 'Angelfish heat protection and smoothing cream'.
  • If you get split ends from your hair being so dry, use a frizz serum on the tips of your hair which will seal up the split in the hair and stop new splits from being created.
  • Prepare your hair if you must use a heat appliance device (curler, straightener, etc) on your hair.

Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. This will provide your body with the necessary vitamins to make your hair shinier and stronger.
  • Make sure you are eating at least 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
  • If you know you don't have enough vitamins in your natural diet take vitamin tablets. Check that this is OK with your doctor first. It may not be necessary to take them every day, just a boost every few days.

Protect your hair from the cold weather.
  • Try wearing a stylish hat when you go out.
  • Make sure you always have an umbrella in your bag for emergencies.
  • Keep some frizz serum in your bag in case of wet weather ruining your hair.

Be nice to your hair.
  • Try wearing your hair up rather than straightening it, or even try wearing it natural. Using a flat iron damages and dries out your hair anyway, so try to avoid this in the winter.
  • Don't scrape it back. If you're pulling your hair you're putting more strain on it.
