Using food as a prop in the bedroom can be totally hot—as long as you do it the right way. We asked Jennifer Landa, MD, chief medical officer of BodyLogicMD and author of The Sex Drive Solution for Women for her tips on how to work it. By Meagan Morris
Go Sweet
Tired of the chocolate and whipped cream? Consider blindfolding your guy and turning foreplay into a tasting party with exotic fruits like kiwis, mangos, and pomegranates. You can also tickle each other's erogenous zones with ice cubes and sour and sweet candy like Warheads. Getty Images
Use it for Foreplay
Food turns sex into an experience for all five senses. And certain ones—like whipped cream, honey, and chocolate—ramp up your body before the main event, making your orgasm more intense. Getty Images
Leave it On the Outside
Foods like cucumbers and bananas might seem like a fun replacement for a sex toy, but they can cause imbalances of the vaginal flora (the normal, delicate bacterial balance in our vaginas) and even cause other types of bacterial infections. So eat it, don't use it. Getty Images
Some Foods Are Safe for Double Duty, Though
Extra virgin coconut oil is a miracle food: It's great as a cooking oil and as a healthy lube during sex. It also takes on other flavors, so you can mix it with other natural ingredients to create a lube you won't mind getting in your mouth. Getty Images
Keep The Sugar Away From Your Hoo-ha
Too much sugar is bad for your health—and it's also bad for your lady parts. Sugar encourages the growth of yeast, which can lead to a whole host of nasty infections. So if you're using something sweet in bed, like a popsicle or fruit, keep it away from your vagina. Getty Images
