Steps
1
Always look at a person when you hear their name; it increases the connection and helps you trigger your visual memory.-
2Slow down the name game. When someone is introducing you to ten people in a row, slow it down and make sure to hear the names one at a time.
-
3Try not to repeat a person's name back to them; it does not work for memory as well as people think.
-
4Ask yourself in your mind's ear "what was your name again? Just before or after hearing a name. When your mind answers automatically, it starts to make a connection - after all when you forget a name, that question is the first thing you ask yourself. So, when you ask this question right after you hear the name, it makes a little Pavlov-like response in your mind and should improve your memory for names as much as double.
-
5Try to visualize the name. This is the basis of many memory techniques. For example if a person's name is Kathy, think of a Cat. If a person's name is Michael, think of a microphone. Then imagine the person with the item. This may seem like an extra step but the results will speak for themselves. Not every name in the world is as easy to visualize as Kathy and Mike.
