Steps
1
Drink 8 cups (2 l) of water or 6 to 8 cups (1.5 to 2 l) of herbal tea each day. You'll want to be well hydrated at the time of your colonic.-
2Eat plenty of vegetables, particularly green vegetables and/or salad greens. Ideally, vegetables should account for 50 to 70 percent of your meals in the days prior to your colonic. Try to consume a combination of raw vegetables, such as in salads, and some vegetables that are steamed or lightly cooked. Do not consume processed food such as cakes and pastries, foods made with white flours and/or sugar and artificial sweeteners, chocolate, and fast food. Processed foods are more likely to get stuck inside your bowel.
-
3Chew your food thoroughly. Try to chew each mouthful 20 to 30 times before swallowing. Thorough chewing will reduce the accumulation of undigested food and pockets of gas in your colon.
-
4Drink freshly squeezed vegetable juices if you have access to a juicer or are located near a juice bar. Avoid both tomato and orange juices because they produce acid in the body.
-
5Decrease your consumption of animal-based proteins which are binding foods that are high in acid.
-
6Exercise the day of or the day before your procedure to stimulate circulation throughout the intestines.
-
7Arrive a little early for your procedure. The intestines function best when they are relaxed. If you are feeling stressed prior to the procedure, try laughing, deep breathing, and/or listening to calming music.
-
8Talk openly and honestly with your colonic therapist to discuss your lifestyle, medical history, and any questions or concerns you may have about your symptoms or the procedure.
