Gone are the days when eye wear was an inconvenience reserved for people with less than perfect vision. Nowadays, glasses and sunglasses are all the rage rocked by everyone from pop stars to regular folks.

Previous years have seen the reign of several eye wear trends including the black nerdy glasses, Aviator glasses and round-rimmed glasses a la Beyonce and Burna Boy to name a few.

While all of these styles still remain in place, a few new ones have popped on the radar and from the look of things, 2015 is poised to be the year of the cat eyes.

Here are 3 eye wear styles to try out this year.

1. Cat eye glasses: This is the big trend of the year. From sun glasses to medicated glasses, cat eyes are the big deal in the eye wear market and we approve because it looks great on just about anyone. The cat eye trend traces its roots to the 1950's and 1960's when Hollywood heavyweights like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor rocked the style to no end. So ladies, channel your inner old Hollywood and snag a pair of these babies.
2. Patterned frames: Previous years saw the reign of solid colours with eye wear. However we spot a lot of patters in the eye wear market and while this takes a little getting used, we're confident that it's a trend that will rock.
3. Mirrored, coloured lenses: Remember Tonto Dike's green-hued shades from late last year, well looks like she was spot on because this trend is here to stay. Coloured mirrored glasses are expected to be a big trend this year.
4. Quirky statement making frames: Eye wear is about to get bigger and bolder in 2015. From colour blocked frames to unusual shapes, its going to be a year of statement making eye wear all round.
