Whether you want to see a change in your work or personal life, these five steps will help you prepare for happiness and success. It’s all about thinking for the win

The extent of the connection between mind and body is still being discovered. Drawing on my own personal experience and observations, I've noted that happier people tend to get better results in the gym – these five tips mentally prepare you for success, whether you’re working out or trying to change your life...

Gratitude
Practise positive thinking and prepare your brain for achievement with a daily reminder of what you are grateful for. This could be childhood experiences, family, friends, good health, or recent professional success.

Meditate
Daily meditation or moments of mindfulness can significantly reduce stress and anxiety and many successful people, from top athletes to chief executives, swear by it. All you need is to find a quiet place to sit comfortably, close your eyes and be aware of your breathing. This will help clear your mind of all thoughts so you can properly relax. Just be. Easier said than done, but it’s worth pursuing, as the benefits you’ll reap are nothing short of profound.

Set goals
This gives your life direction and boosts your motivation. I’ve observed great results by constructing a yearly theme – such as transformation, adventure or transition. Then I work that down into primary and secondary time-constrained goals, then daily rituals and practices like the ones in this article.

Kindness
Expressing love and compassion does as much for the giver as the recipient. Learning to walk around with love in your heart without fear of expressing it is liberating. Tell your family and romantic partners you love them as often as you can, let friends know how much you appreciate them and try to radiate love and positivity to everyone.

Laugh
Find time each day to have a giggle. Whether this is when you’re alone, with friends, clients or family. Even if it’s simply cracking up at something on TV, laughter is great for the immune system, reduces stress and is good for your heart. Not only that – when we smile, others are drawn to us: it literally makes us more attractive.
