The importance of Clothing and Grooming to Create the Right Impression
Your personal
etiquette represents how you feel about yourself and the outside world. Whilst
we may like to think that we don’t judge people on their appearances, we do
inevitably assess others by how they dress and their personal grooming.
Most of people’s
impressions of others are based on 80 percent nonverbal signs, so
it would appear that what you say will do little to change what people think of
you when they first meet you.
Whilst your clothing
should be adapted appropriately for your location, your personal etiquette and
grooming standards should remain the same regardless of whether you are
casually dressed for a picnic or enjoying dinner at a
nice restaurant.
When a confident
woman walks into a room it is entrancing and captivating, regardless of her
age. Loving your clothes and style will help give you great personal etiquette
and confidence.
Your choice of clothes should both exude good taste and also
reflect your personality and style.
You don't have to spend a fortune to look good!
Acquiring
good taste in clothes does not mean that you need to spend a fortune on
designer items, on the contrary, in a society of WAGS and The only Way
is Essex, less can definitely seem like more.
It can be easy to
confuse vulgar for luxury and, even if Couture clothes show status, over the
top displays of designer labels is never a good look. In the current economic
climate it is wise to avoid the conspicuous consumption image.
Of course, some
higher priced clothing is worth investing in for the quality and cut of the
material, especially for classic items like blazers, jeans and coats. But a few
of these items is enough for any wardrobe and can be mixed with high street
clothing quite easily.
The most important
part of personal etiquette is to remember that your overall packaging
represents the image you wish to portray to the world.
Whilst few women are
borne with innate fashion sense, we can all learn to develop our own signature
look with an aim of maintaining an aura of eternal style.
Learning what
colours, styles and shapes suit you best coupled with becoming a savvy shopper
will ensure you look fantastic in whatever you wear, whatever the occasion, ensuring your personal etiquette is flawless.
Personally, if I am
not well dressed and well groomed I will be in a bad mood! If I feel I look my
best then I feel fabulous and vice versa!
Can you be Casual and still be Dressed well?
Dressing well
does not necessarily mean dressing up. In fact I think that 'Casual' is one of the most
difficult area to get right and takes much practice.
The type of materials can
play a huge factor in the success of this area of dressing but you really can’t
beat a pair of well cut, good fitting jeans with a white shirt or cashmere
jumper. Functional, chic and simple.
The psychological
perks of dressing well are huge and clothes are definitely mood altering. If
you dress well it shows you love and respect yourself.
“Nothing
makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful” Sophia
Loren
Looking back at
the Hollywood golden era I noticed that the women exuded style and confidence.
Whether it is Marilyn Monroe dressed in jeans and a jumper or Grace Kelly in an
evening gown, they all looked luminous and comfortable in their own skin.
Style comes from
knowing who you are and want you want out of life, and not wanting to be
someone else who is thinner, prettier or wealthier.
It comes from
self-confidence and not always from being a great beauty. As we grow older someone’s inner beauty,
charisma, charm and overall persona is what makes them appealing.
Being confident in
your own skin and dressing well to complement the body you have rather than the
body you want is one of the biggest keys to high self-esteem. So, treat
yourself like a princess now, not when you have lost ten pounds or landed the big
job.
Love being a woman
and enjoy pampering yourself with long baths, beautiful fragrances, and
exquisite lingerie. Get a manicure and hair cut regularly, ditch the tracksuit
and switch to luxurious fabrics like silk and cashmere.
I can guarantee your
confidence will start to increase immediately!
