Violet Boutique Rainy Day

The 2014 winter weather has been less than desirable for Washingtonians, making dressing oneself for work or play a particularly difficult task. Between frigid temperatures, serious snowfall, and now chilly rain, ladies in the District have really had to accommodate Mother Nature into their wardrobes this year.

But because everyone eventually needs to leave the house for the office, DC clothing store Violet Boutique offers these fashion tips for work wear in bad weather:

  1. Investing in a good pair of rain boots is always smart for the Washington gal-on-the go. As most living downtown rely on the metro or walking to get to the office, rubber-soled boots will come in handy; especially when buses or truck splash water as they pass by!
  2. Try to only wear pants that are tailored in rainy weather to prevent trousers from becoming damp or tearing on the trek to and from work.
  3. Pick a versatile jacket that works with as many outfits as possible to keep you dry in wet conditions.  Whether it be a trench coat or a classic rain jacket, make sure that it is made of nylon (not cotton) and can fit over a blazer or sweater for perfect layering!
  4. Adding a pear of thicker tights or leggings underneath a skirt or dress will maintain a professional look while keeping you warm at the same time!
  5.   Accessories in rainy weather should be simple with emphasis placed on the umbrella! While grabbing a cheap one from the nearest drug store will do in a pinch, it is always a good rule of thumb to have a strong umbrella that can withstand heavy rain or wind. They can also double as a stylish bad weather accessory too!
