10 FOODS YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BUY ORGANIC AND WHY

culled from:beautyandtips.com

1. Baby food
In a recent study of baby foods by the US department of Agriculture, an alarming number of baby foods were found to contain traces of pesticides and fungicides. Children’s bodies are far more susceptible to these chemicals, and it is always wise to buy organic baby food, if you can.

2. Milk
Non organic dairy cows are not as natural, as we might think either. They are often given genetically engineered hormones to increase their milk yield and some studies have suggested that these hormones may contribute to the development of cancer in human beings.

3. Bread
When you tuck into your toast, you could be tucking into a portion of malathion, an insecticide that is also used in head lice shampoo and pet flea treatments! Malathion has been linked to cancer and changes in the human immune system. It can also be passed from a pregnant mother to her unborn baby. So make sure that you buy only organic bread.

4. Apples
Apples are actually one of the most highly contaminated foods that you can buy. It’s well worth spending a little extra money on your apples and buying organic, because they won an award for “most contaminated produce” in 2013.

5. Tomato ketchup
The cheap tomatoes used in ketchup and sauces are very likely to be highly contaminated with pesticides. When a sample of regular cherry tomatoes was recently tested, it was found to contain 13 different pesticides. Organic tomatoes will not only be not contaminated with pesticides, they will also contain far more nutritional benefit.

6. Meat
Animal feed is often laced with synthetic growth hormones and antibiotics, to help fatten the animals up faster. These additives find their way into the meat that you eat and they have been blamed for the rise in antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

7. Celery
While apples win the awards for the most contaminated fruit, celery takes the honors in the most contaminated vegetable categories. Avoid the mass produced celery, if you can and go for locally produced, organic celery instead.

8. Potatoes
Potatoes don’t appear on the top of the charts of contaminated foods, but they are pretty high up on the list. Even peeling and washing them doesn’t help, and the average potato contains more pesticides, than most other food crops.

9. Spinach
Spinach is often eaten for its heath befits and it does contain loads of healthy vitamins and minerals. But, if it’s not organic spinach, then it will also contain an unhealthy dose of pesticides. Spinach is the second most contaminated vegetable on our list, after celery.

10. Strawberries
Unless they are organic, then strawberries may not be quite as appetizing, when you realize that they are the second most contaminated fruit in the supermarket. If you can’t afford organic strawberries, then try some oranges instead, because they contain far fewer pesticides.
Sadly, there are many more other contaminated foods, fruits and vegetables that you can find in supermarkets, so make your research and be sure to make your health a priority!
