What is servant leadership? Despite the fact that it sounds painful, servant leadership is simply giving your time to help or lead someone else. Read here to find out how to be a servant leader!
Steps
1
Address the problem at hand.
You have to be vigilant. If you notice your elderly neighbor shoveling
snow off her driveway in the cold, put on a jacket and help her! You may
not want to do it, but that is what servant leadership is all about. If
you see that your school or workplace front lawn is looking a bit
barren, ask your boss or principal if you can round up a few friends and
get planting.-
2Sometimes your help may not be wanted or accepted. People value their independence. Respect that, and back off.
-
3Never try to lead just for the sake of leading. There are many reasons to be a servant leader - some do it for religious enlightenment, others to better themselves. Whatever the reason, don't attempt to become a servant leader for the attention or praise.
-
4Start a group. If you have a large project in mind, it will be hard to complete it on your own.
-
5Educate your group. Let's say that you want to start finding jobs and funding makeovers for homeless people in shelters. Tell your group why you feel that the makeovers are crucial to the people getting jobs. Also warn them about any possible dangers or risks to them or their health.
-
6Host a fundraiser. While servant leadership is all about doing work without pay, no makeovers are free. Try to utilize all the connections within your group to ease your workload. For instance, if Shelly (or one of her parents) own a hair salon, ask if they can help fund the makeovers. If Jay (or his father) owns a company that is looking for many new employees, ask if he would allow the homeless people to set up job interviews.
-
7Educate the youth in your community about servant leadership.
