Many a tired worker owe their productive day to
the stimulating effects of a good cup of coffee. In the same vein, many a
party goer owe the survival of a brutal hang over to the energy
bursting aroma a cup of coffee packs.
Coffee has
long been touted for its high caffeine content which provides the
perfect punch when you're feeling a little heavy on the lids. But some
quarters also allude to the fact that caffeine isn't the healthiest
material for the body. We think not so much.
We
did some digging around and found that contrary to popular belief,
coffee offers some advantages to the body. Here are 5 reasons why coffee
isn't so bad for your body.
- Boosts energy level: As we've earlier pointed out, coffee contains caffeine which is a great stimulant. When the caffeine enters the bloodstream, it travels to the brain blocking an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine which then leads to an enhanced firing of neurones. This in turn improves energy level, mood and other brain functions.
- It burns fat: Do we see your eyes widening at this bit, as your lips utter the letters O-M-G? We're right there with you, what's not to love about anything that burns fat? Ever feel the urge to use the restroom after taking coffee? Studies show that caffeine boosts metabolism by as much as 3-11% in addition to increasing the burning of fat.
- Rich in antioxidants: Antioxidants are substances which remove potentially damaging oxidizing agents in a living organism, and coffee contains a significant quantity of this.
- Boosts physical performance: Caffeine increases epinephrine (adrenaline) levels in the blood also known as the "fight or flight" hormone which readies the body for intense physical exertion. It also makes the fat cells break down body fat, releasing them into the blood as free fatty acids and making them available as fuel. In a nutshell, coffee significantly boosts body performance level.
