Business valuations are expensive. Often, you can wind up paying anywhere from a few thousand dollars into the hefty six-figures just to figure out how much your company is worth.
Basil Peters, CEO of Strategic Exits Corp. and author of Early Exits, says it's plain ludicrous how much money entrepreneurs waste on the effort. "I've never seen a situation where paying for a valuation like that is advantageous," says Peters. "It shouldn't cost you any actual money."
Rather than cough up loads of cash for a 50-page document, "talk to someone who sells businesses like yours regularly," says Peters. " Don't pay anything more than a cup of coffee or maybe a lunch."
