7 facts about nail polish from the '20s

Nail polish was made popular in the 1920s where it was created for mere show off. Any lady who wore nail polish back then was seen as a lady of leisure and very comfortable.

In the 1920s Nitrocellulose was introduced as an ingredient in nail polish which acted as a film forming agent to make the polish stay in place and last longer.

There are more fun facts about nail polish way back then that have been taken for granted in the present day:

1.  In the 1920's before nitrocellulose, women would either manicure their nails with powder or cream polish, which would be buffed onto nails with a cloth to give a subtle pink finish!
2. In the 1920s if your nails were well kept, you are automatically seen as a member of the upper class as it wasn't an affordable or common beauty product.
3. Cutex was one of the leading nail polish brands of the 1920s.
4. In the 1920s it was trend to paint the middle of the nail leaving the top and bottom bare.
5. A lot of ladies started tending more to their nails by wearing nail polish in the 1920s, it became a major trend in this era.
6. Nail polish were predominantly in shades of light pink with limited rose colours saved for 'scandalous' women.
7. In the early nail polish wearing era, it was reported that one of Revlon’s base coats ruined quite a few fingernails and even led to one amputation!
