If you are on a date, a compliment can go a long way. Complimenting your crush helps the date go smoother and allows you to feel comfortable with each other. Here are a few suggestions:

Complimenting Your Date

Think of a compliment. If you're having trouble, the following generally do just fine:
    • Tell him/her that she is looking spectacular, pretty, handsome, beautiful, stunning, or gorgeous.
    • Compliment his/her hair, smile, outfit, eyes, or another specific characteristic.
    • Try to sound original. Think of a compliment that is unique to the person (e.g. his/her laugh, intelligence, etc.)

        • Tips

        • If you say something rude, try to work your way out of it by rephrasing (e.g., "What I meant was...", "That came out wrong...") Try to laugh it off. Keeping your cool goes a long way.
        • Be sure to talk to him/her respectfully.
        • Try not to make too many jokes. Remember, you don't want this experience to be one-dimensional.
        • If you're feeling awkward, tell your date that you aren't very good at these things: this is endearing.
        • Don’t forget to maintain eye contact. If you look around too much, you may be giving off the impression that you are bored.
        • Don't use cheesy pick up lines.
        • Keep your breath fresh. Nothing is more off-putting than disgusting breath.
        • Pause frequently. Keeping space between your compliments allows them to sink in; however, too much silence is never a good thing.
        • Warnings

        • Try not to stare at another girl/boy walking by. Don't stare anywhere that may discomfort your date.
        • Be honest. If you really like the individual, just say what you feel.
        • Do not over-compliment. Conversations based solely on compliments can make the other person uncomfortable and self-conscious.
